Jazz Fest gets three Grammy nominations

NEW ORLEANS (AP) — Three of the Grammy nominations recently announced are for music recorded during this year’s New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival.

Michael Doucet garnered one of the nominations for Best Zydeco/Cajun Music Album for his work, “Live at the 2008 New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival,” recorded with his band, BeauSoleil.

Also nominated for their live recording at the Jazz Fest were Steve Riley and the Mamou Playboys.

The third nomination was for a bluegrass performance at the festival by the Del McCoury Band.

The Jazz Fest began the live recordings during the 2004 festival. Festival spokesman Matthew Goldman says these are the first that have been nominated for Grammys.

The Grammy Awards will be held on Feb. 8, 2009, in Los Angeles, and will be broadcast live on CBS.
